What is a "sober companion"?

Sober Companion provides a sense of real companionship and camaraderie to help the recovering addict abstain from negative behaviors and reinforce the positive results of continued abstinence.

The goal of sober companionship is to help the addict build a support system to compliment the work of the residential treatment centers, outpatient programs and private therapists. 

Prevention

A sober companion is particularly adept at running interference between the client and those who seek to provide drugs and/or alcohol.

Focus

A sober companion's job is to keep the recovery process in focus and remind the client of the negative consequences of relapse.  A sober companion is a support person to work through processes which will prevent  addictions and further destructive behaviors.

Contractual Obligation Support

A sober companion provides a crucial service for those resistant to remaining abstinent, but who must do so due to legal, medical, family or contractual obligations.

Time Intensive Support

A sober companion provides an around-the-clock attendance or attendance for a great number of hours per day to reinforce the positive results of continued abstinence. Sober companions make all the difference in the world.
